Miriam “Mim” Landau left
her body behind on October 3rd –she died suddenly in her home.
Mim trained at the Art Students League in NYC in the 1940s. She
continued her studies at the Copley Society in Boston as well as the
Boston School of Art. As a textile designer and commercial artist, her
work appeared in advertisements, on theatre bills and show cards, on
posters and greeting cards, as well as on fabric.
Mim’s paintings are reminiscent of Salavador Dali’s
work—not surprising as Dali was her favorite artist. Much
of her work might be best described as dreamscapes where hidden images
abound and impossible combinations join. You might see, for instance, a
platter of vegetables floating on the ocean or mysterious bodies
emerging from nature.
Mim was also known for her figure drawings and watercolors. She
dabbled in sculpture and pottery in later years, drawing acclaim for her ceramics,
which treat clay as both canvas and form. She received more
than 15 awards for her art.
Mim practiced the fine arts through her life . She offered an art class
in her community and leaves behind many fine artists and friends, as
well as her children, Mike and Debi.
